Weekend Finds

The choice on Saturday was decorating or getting out and about looking for new items for our next fair at the Academy in Aberdeen from the 1st of December. I found some great stuff.

In the picture above there is a Greenway trio set by Hostess Tableware. I found a set of six in perfect condition. Next to the trio is a gorgeous Winnblad March wall plaque and a Midwinter Berkeley milk jug.

I also found some lovely items in their original boxes. A beautiful set of Ravenhead Chunkies which have never been used and a set of Arcopal egg cups.

If you see anything in our blog or facebook that you would like more information about please e-mail us as we often sell items before we get a chance to put them on our web site.

Weekend Finds

The weather has not been good this weekend so what better way to spend the day than by going out and about looking for great vintage items. Take a look at what I found for our next fair.

In the picture above there is the beautiful Brexton Picnic Set for four which is in great condition. The Olympia typewriter is complete with its case and inspection papers! The cute little milk jug and sugar bowl is a design called Madrid by J & G Meakin.

These Schreiber units will look great in any bedroom. The legs on them are so cute and curvy.

Vintage and Craft Fair

Last Sunday we attended the Vintage and Craft Fair held by I Heart Art at the Galleria in Aberdeen. The day was a great success with people queueing to get their hands on the goodie bags available to the first 50 in the door. There were lots of other stall holders including Feet and Tea, TwentyThreeTwo, The Closet, Storm in a Vintage Tea Cup and Flourish. Some of the items which found good homes on the day were our lovely 1960s Schreiber sideboard, a 60s nest of tables, Meakin Topic tea set and our typewriter.

Here are some photos of our stall on the day.

We will have to head out hunting soon for more great treasures for our next fair.....

A Catch Up.

It has been a while since we have written in our blog, we have been busy sorting out our stock and trying to photograph everything we have bought. We also had our first fair which was quite nerve racking but great fun, we met some very interesting people. We had a road trip in the country recently with our friend Laura showing us some great places we had never visited before or even knew existed. On our day out we came across this side board and could not resist. It is made by Schrieber and has a mirror that attaches to the back of the unit. It has a few scratches to the top but looks amazing, we love it.

Cushie Doo's Long Lost Pal

A wee gem found in the bottom of a box, but too cute not to mention. This trivet has maybe seen better days but would still brighten up the kitchen as the nights draw in.

Font Fortnight Finale

We started with a typewriter so we'll finish with a typewriter. Modern computers are no match for the design of this Corsair deluxe typewriter by Smith-Corona, with it's mustard yellow case, cream body and flashes of gold. But the extra special thing about this typerwriter is it's font. None of that classic typewriter font here, instead we have a modern (well modern at the time) computer style font transporting you straight back to the days when computers took up most of a room and this typewriter was sleek by comparison. Move over Brother Deluxe, the Corsair deluxe will be the new star of our shop soon www.cuhiedoovintage.com

(slightly extended) Font Fortnight

The unusual and striking font on these storage jars caught our eye immediately. We don't know the origins of these jars but we reckon they date from the late 70s to early 80s. They probably first kept teabags and coffee grounds safe and sound in a fully pine clad kitchen with cheese plants in the corner, the envy of all the neighbours as they ate their prawn cocktails and supped their Babycham. These jars may have blended into the background next to all that pine, but we'd reckon they'd be a cool nod to the past in a modern kitchen. Coming to our website www.cushiedoovintage.com soon....

Font Fortnight: Nice and Spicy

Spice jars lend themselves perfectly to nice fonts and we love when we find practical jars with nice typography. What better way to decorate your kitchen and store your parsley, sage rosemary and thyme than vintage herb and spice jars. Here are some of our selection we've pulled from our collection which will be appearing in our shop soon.

Font Fortnight: Hornsea Love Mugs

We love when we stumble upon a Hornsea Love Mug in our travels. Although slightly out of synch with the seasons, we couldn't resist featuring our most recent find. Made in 1977 and featuring lots of things we love, including typewriter look font and cute little yellow birds, what's not to love?

We like to celebrate the seasons here at Cushie Doo and what better way to do it than supping your tea from one of these mugs. We'd love to complete the whole collection of these mugs designed by Kenneth Townsend in the 1970s, but in the meantime we will putting any spares, as we find them, in our shop. If you want to find out more, H is for Home have a great article that can be found by clicking here.

Font Fortnight: Bold & Bright

Hurrah for Hornsea who ensured we will always know what their items are for by printing it on the sides in bold type. How would we know the difference between our milk jug and our mugs if they hadn't labelled them for us? Joking aside, we love these items and the bright, bold font adds 80s style to any kitchen. This range came in several different coloured stripes and had everything from Kitchen Things to Marmalade pots. Check out items from this range at our shop http://www.cushiedoovintage.com/

Font Fortnight

Welcome to Font Fortnight. We here at Cushie Doo love the range of fonts we see on our products so have decided  to make a feature of them. The first featured font is a classic typewriter font typed by a Brother Deluxe typewriter that is currently for sale in our shop www.cushiedoovintage.bigcartel.com. It is a beautiful light blue typewriter in great shape complete with a navy blue leather look case and it's original manual in perfect condition- we thought this was a wonderful find. We love a classic typewriter font and hope to incorporate this into a new logo along with Cushie Doo himself ... keep an eye on our website in the not so distant future.....

Summer Delights 6: The Farewell Party

Today has been a cold one and we have finally given in and accepted that Autumn is close but we won't let summer go without a good farewell party. Today's lemonade set is a must for any good retro knees up, it's exciting and full of character, a must for any party. So get the cocktails ready and lets celebrate the end of a season and the beginning of the next.

Summer Delights 5:

What better way to keep the summer feeling alive than by making our homes feel like the sun is shining inside them. Here at Cushie Doo we think we have found the perfect material to do this. Our seamstress is working hard right now making cushions with these vivid vintage materials so that any home can be cheered up this winter. Check out our shop in October for the finished pieces http://www.cushiedoovintage.com/ . We can't wait to be curled up on the sofa on a cold winter's day surrounded by these designs.

Summer Delights 4: garden parties

Well, with the wind blowing outside the house today this pretty cake stand by Old Foley wouldn't be standing for long had the planned outside afternoon tea gone ahead. But had the sun been shining, rather than the leaves falling off the trees in a nod to an impending autumn, this sunny cake stand would have been the perfect platter for serving mini scones topped with cream and fresh strawberries. However, even though the rain lashed outside, this stand brought a little sunshine inside and a bit of hope that September will bring with it an Indian summer. We envisage this cakestand as the centre piece to a beautiful vintage wedding afternoon tea  but can equally imagine it bringing a bit of decadence to everyday jam pieces and tunnocks caramel wafers to brighten up any afternoon tea. Available in our shop now...

Summers Delights 3: a sunny forecast

The forecast for today is blue sky, with a few clouds but mainly sun, sun, sun, sun.  That might be wishful thinking looking out at Cushie Doo in the garden today, but its always the forecast on these summery drinking glasses. While we may just have had four days of sun in August, these glasses have four suns featured on each one! We love the bright turquoises and oranges on this beautiful design, which we reckon dates from the late 1970s or early 1980s. So don your roller skates, crack open the creamola foam and have yourself a perfect vintage summery day with these stunning glasses currently featured in our shop http://www.cushiedoovintage.bigcartel.com/.  Catch them before the suns go down....

Summer Delights 2

While the sun is shining it is always good to have friends round to share some cold lemonade (or if your like us here it more likely to be a G&T) and to make the occassion special we all need a good lemonade set. Here at Cushie Doo we think we have found a set that would make all your friends want to come round. This vintage amber lemonade set is stunning and would make a great talking point for any garden party.

Summer Delights

We had a gorgeous day yesterday but the rain clouds have gathered again today and it feels like the holiday season has passed but here at Cushie Doo we feel that we should try and keep the summer alive. So this weeks blog is dedicated to everything summery, and what a better way to start the week but with this stunning little milk jug by Spode titled Summer Days from the 1950s. It looks beautiful on the mantlepiece and always catches the eye of visitors, a real little gem with loads of appeal.

Cushie Doo's Pals 5

This is certainly not one of Cushie Doo's older pals but a new one that is just too cute to ignore. This Ikea tray decorated with bright birds makes serving afternoon tea at the Cushie Doo office a total delight.

Cushie Doo's Bird Pals 4 twit twoo

We couldn't resist this friendly feathered chap. With a wee twinkle in his eye he charmed us into buying him, with the promise that the twinkle would get even brighter when we lit him up at night as a lantern. He wasn't wrong, we were quite charmed. Made by Bristow Potteries, which means that at some point in the past this chap has flown all the way to scotland from Malta.

Cushie Doo's Bird Pals 3

This bright and cheery 'Over the Rainbow' pot by Elizabethan pottery reminds us of the days of Care Bears, leg warmers with puffball skirts and when we still believed you could find a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. This would be great as a fun addition to your dressing table (although backcombing your hair and miming Tiffany into your hairbrush is optional) or for storing your hubba bubba, flying saucers or parma violets (or perhaps something a bit more sensible)

Cushie Doo's Pals 2

These bird of paradise plates are one of our favourite finds this month. They were produced by Royal Doulton between 1973-78 and are are part of the Everglades range. These would be perfect for afternoon tea or make a stunning decorative piece for your home. We will definitely be sad to part with these as we think they are just stunning.

This small dish by Weatherby Hanley features the classic vintage  three flying ducks, which appeared on numerous post war living room walls. This item will be appearing on our website http://www.cushiedoovintage.bigcartel.com/ soon....
